What is a doula?

Doula (/ˈduːlə/)

A doula is a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to their client before, during and shortly after childbirth to help them achieve the healthiest, most satisfying experience possible.

Benefits of a doula

Studies have shown that women who have a doula during childbirth encounter increased satisfaction in their birth experience. It not only improves the maternal – infant bond, but also decreases the incidents of complications. C-section instances can be tremendously reduced, a successful journey of breastfeeding is enhanced, and the self-esteem of the mother is strengthened. Risk of postpartum depression can also be diminished.

"Upon our first meeting, my husband and I fell in love with her. Her energy is so loving, honest, and pure. We loved having Regina come over prebirth to chat and prepare. But, I realized what a BLESSING it was to have Regina when I went into labor. Regina was always checking in on me via phone or in person during early labor and telling me to rest. She made me feel secure in my choices when my family started making me doubt myself. Regina could tell by my moans and contractions what position I should try next, where to give me counter pressure or massage where I needed relief, or simply would give me a loving look so I knew everything is ok.
